Youth Program
The Frederick Chapter's Youth Program has taken children to the Maryland Youth Hunter Education Challenge (MYHEC) in teams and as individual competitors for 8 consecutive years. Each year the children and coaches have gained knowledge from the events and sharpened their hunting and safety skills.
Mr. Kelkye, who directs the Frederick YHEC program, also does muzzleloading instruction. Jack Deatherage does the archery; Kevin Hancock, wildlife identification; and Tom Wheatley is the orienteering guru. Coaches for the Frederick teams at this year’s championship were Donald Roberson senior team and Ron Sexton junior team, Kevin Hancock.
Teams from Carroll, Howard, Prince George’s and Washington counties, and one representing both Garrett and Allegany counties, competed in this year’s championship. When the two-day event, which was held June 16-17 in Williamsport, MD at the Potomac Fish And Game.
The Junior team competition and came in third place also the team came in third in Hunter safety Trail. The members of junior team this year are Adam Cichelli, Tyler Roberson, Josh Saxton, Michael Rugola and Mike Fouche. Adam and Tyler were members of last year’s championship team. Michael Rugola was first in overall score and muzzleloading, and second in Archery. Josh Sexton was second in Muzzleloading and Archery. Adam Cichelli was third in Wildlife identification. Andrew Budd also this year participate as an individual competitor.
The senior team competition and came in First place overall. The team members are Robert Hancock, Kevin Kelkye, Russell Wheatley, Donald Roberson. Robert Hancock took. First in Hunter responsibility, Second in Shotgun and Third place Overall, archery and Rifle. Donald Roberson was first in Archery and orienteering.

Hunter Safety Courses at their Chapter house located at 4719 Reels Mill Road, Frederick, MD. The Youth Program sells refreshments during the courses to raise money for their activities.
